Citizenship & Enrolment

Citizenship & Enrolment

In the past, the government of Canada has imposed rules for determining who is and who is not a member of the Uchucklesaht Tribe. As part of our renewed self-government, the Uchucklesaht Tribe reclaims our inherent right to determine our own citizenship.

Uchucklesaht Tribe has established a Citizenship Law that sets out the criteria for Uchucklesaht Citizenship and Enrolment under the Maa-nulth Treaty and establishes rules and procedures aimed at ensuring those criteria are applied fairly and consistently to all individuals.

The Uchucklesaht Tribe Citizenship and Enrolment Committee has been established as a Uchucklesaht public institution. The mandate of the Citizenship and Enrolment Committee is to make decisions regarding the granting and revocation of Uchucklesaht citizenship and, after the initial enrolment period, the granting and revocation of enrolment under the Maa-nulth Treaty. Council has appointed three citizens as members of the Uchucklesaht Citizenship and Enrolment Committee (an elder, a councillor, and the registrar).

It is the committees desire to have a complete and up to date Enrolment Register so that all Uchucklesaht can benefit from the Maa-nulth Final Agreement.

If you require assistance with filling out forms, please do not hesitate to contact the Law Clerk/Registrar at carla.halvorsen@uchucklesaht.ca
